Black bone found on Brighton beach - ID please??

Hi, I am just curious about the background of this bone and why it is black?? I think it is a tibia or a femur but not sure. Thanks in advance20140217_204108.jpg

    Yes, this is a femur, in the top photo the knee end of the bone is on the left and hip end on the right. The epiphyses, the growing ends, of the bone have come off both ends and this indicates a sub adult animal. When animals decompose in anaerobic conditions (low oxygen), such as under water, the carbon is not fully oxidised and gives the bone the black appearance.
