Fossil tooth or shell ???

I found a tooth along tide line it looks like a tooth but it is purple it also has a shiny enamel to it on front but irregular erosions like a shell.

There have been recent excavations near this part of beach i found this on.

It is just so much alike my other fish teeth the way the lines are and all. I am stumped as to what this is. Please help me identify,

thanks.
