I found these at Lyme Regis and was wondering what they could be, as I'm going through my collection. Perhaps a fossilised limpet?
They are parts of small concretions, not fossils. The whole concretions would have been ovoid.
The layers are original stratification. They are prone to break along the stratification, leaving you with fragments such as those you have found.
Interesting what nature turns up!
