Fossil leaves?

Hi.  I found these in Ossett, West Yorkshire, UK and they are carboniferous aged.  I have only found two of these.  Are they fossil leaves or just coal in the rock? (also not they both have fossil wood on the back.)

I presume they come from the Carboniferous coal formation but I'm not sure.  What rock are they in?  It doesn't really look like sandstone, but I'm not sure what it is.

Any replies would be appriciated.
