Coenonympha pamphilus?



I hate Nymphalidae! They seem all the same


Ok, could it be Coenonympha pamphilus ?

    Hi Marcello,


    Perhaps you need a little more confidence - because you're right again!

    It is Coenonympha pamphilus.

    The almost-absence of spots on the hind wing underside and simple spot on the forewing underside are good characters, though there is a little variation within the species.


    Very nice photo, as usual.

    It is a shame the pale grass stem in the background is not darker (it is a little distracting). But at least you have kept it out if focus.
