Is this spider a False Widow?

Hi,

I woke up to find this beauty on my bedroom wall next to me this morning. I was wondering if it is the False Widow that everybody is talking about?! I took it away from my house and let it go.

If it is a False Widow, do they normally live in houses?

Thanks

Alicia

    Hi Alicia,

Yes, this is a noble false widow (Steatoda nobilis). They are more common on the exterior of buildings, but do occasionally set up home indoors (window frames & conservatories are popular), males can wander in & out whilst searching for a mate.

I have a couple residing in my front room (they seem well established & stick to one spot), but I do remove any found in the bathroom/bedroom.

    Regards, Mark.
