I saw this beautiful moth in Spain last month. A tiny cream spot on each wing. Chestnut brown.
This is Eriogaster rimicola.
I don't know of a real common name for this species, but Eriogaster species are eggars, and 'rimicola' means crack- or cleft-loving, so you might call it a cleft eggar.
Nice of him to pay you a visit, and nice of you to appreciate him.
(There are other species of E. that occur in Spain (Ee. catax and lanestris), but they are more boldly marked.)
