Help with Identifying this spider

Hi all,

Probably jumping on the bandwagon a bit, but I wonder if anyone can help in identifying this wee fella. I have kids in the house and just want be aware. This has appeared in a south facing porch along with a few others. Located on the West Coast of Scotland near Dunoon. Perhaps been here a while but probably just noticed with the upsurge of interest in all things spider in the press.

Noted with interest that most sightings of false widows have been mainly in the south and Midlands.

Is this a false widow or perhaps something else, or are they possibly further north than is generally thought.

regards

Mark

    Hi Dun2,

This is a harmless Zygiella species, probably Z. x-notata - a missing sector orb weaver. Harmless and very common indeed, especially around windows.

    Regards, Mark.
