Can you identify this Watford Spider

Walking in Watford town centre I noticed this large spider. It was moving at a good (spiderly) pace so applogies for the blur on the photo. The abdomen is about the size of a walnut, i.e. it's large. It's unlike any spider I've ever seen. I'd love to know what it is please.

    Hi Prior,

This is one of the Araneus species (includes A. quadratus one of the largest UK spiders & A. diadematus the garden spider). There are gravid females around this time of year, colouring can vary greatly, but they are not that uncommon.

    Regards, Mark.
