Found on the seashore near Arsuf / Apollonia (ancient town near Herzlia). It looks and feels like a seashell but it is a whole piece - nothing broken. on one side one can see sort of a channel. Can anyone tell me what is it? is it a shell of a mollusk? what kind?
Since it is from eastern mediterranean seashore, and not from the UK , perhaps I am asking at the wrong place. Could you please advise me where can I find experts to answer this ID problem?

it looks to me to be the rim at the opening of a sea snail shell. The lip of the shell is much thicker and can survive when the rest of the shell has been broken off. The sea then smoothes the rough edges where the shell was attached.
Not sure which snail though.
I have included a picture of a shell with the lip circled to demonstrate what I mean.
Apparently you are right - it is difficult to admit that I was wrong in stating that " it is a whole piece - nothing broken" . It looks symmetrically smooth, and I cannot find any sign of being broken on one side - the two edges look just the same. However your attached picture looks convincingly similiar.
