Can anyone ID this Wasp/Hoverfly?

Spotted this little beastie on the edge of a field today. I'm assuming he's a Hoverfly of some sort (not one I've seen before) and not a true Wasp? Can anyone tell me what he/she is? Thanks!

I reckon neither a wasp or hoverfly, but a Thick-headed fly Conops Quadrifasciata. It is a parasite of bees and wasps. Females lay eggs on hosts.
