Puffball identity

Hi,

I wonder if anybody can help?

I took the attched photographs a number of years ago in the New Forest and assumed that the subject was a giant puffball - I can't exactly remember the size, but think that it was at least 8-10 centimetres across.

I now wonder whether I've mis-identified it, though, as the books I'm checking show giant puffballs with a smooth, white surface, whereas my example is greyish in colour with fine, indented patterning. (I'm not too concerned about the colour, but haven't found reference in the books to the patterning).

Advice would be much appreciated.

Andrew
