We live on the second floor next to large leylandii so we get lots of bugs. The past couple of nights we have had visitors that I am unfamiliar with ( I have had a passing interest in mini beasts since childhood).
The first little guy we noticed tickling at my partners foot. It was quite a jumper but I think it could also fly. It has large eyes and no antenna. 3 pics side veiw, front veiw and one with a 2p for scale.
The second was buzzing around our neon light so I thought at first it was a moth til it flew at my face. It was alot bigger than the other and seems to have a sting? 2 pics one with 2p, one of underside.
I released both out the window - hope that was right thing to do.
Many thanks for your help in advance.
The beetle is a click beetle, but I couldn't say which one
The other one looks like a hopper (a group of groups in the Hemiptera).
But I can't find a good match; this is perhaps the closest - http://www.britishbugs.org.uk/homoptera/Cixiidae/Oliarus_panzeri.html
But hang on and see if somebody (more of a bug expert than me) comes up with the answer.
