The attached photo is of a caterpillar which I could not find in any identification book. I thought it would be easy as it had a characterisitc thorn like protrusion on its rear end. Can anyone help me?
But this link says the photo is an early instar of the larve which I guess would add up as the markings are quite different to the majority of the photos on Google and in the text book. I also thought that the caterpillar was much too small to make a hawk sized moth caterpillar but again this makes sense if it still had a lot of growing to do. It was also found directly under a very large pine like tree so it does seem that you are right and this is a Pine Hawk Moth. Thanks for your help. I also added another unidentified caterpillar just before tis one, do you have any idea what this might be?
