Mystery plant

Can anyone identify this plant please? It appeared in one of my plantpots on a north-east facing first floor balcony in April a couple of years ago and as it looked unusual I moved it onto the east-facing bathroom windowsill where it thrived and grew to about 2 ft tall. I didn't see how it developed as I had to go away for a few weeks due to a family emergency and when I got home it had died.

Thank you.

    Jessica,

It has some of the appearance of a Chrysanthemum, but, as a genus, there are many species.

...And many more species in related genera, which are just as likely.

...And it could still be something else.

It is a shame you never saw it in flower: shame for you having nurtured it; shame for us trying to ID it. That would have made a lot of difference.

It does look familiar, however. Maybe somebody else will think so too, and will be able to bring to mind a name.

    Mike
