Spider Identification

I spotted this spider in my garden over the weekend, just curious if anybody knows what it could be?

    Re: Spider Identification

    Hi Sam,

It's one of the false widows, most likely Steatoda grossa by the colour & shape (can't tell from the photo whether it has any markings, or whether what look like markings are just reflections, I suppose at a stretch it could be Steatoda nobilis, a large one with faded markings). They're pretty common, but usually hide away.

I get 3 species of steatoda in my home, but rarely see female S grossa.

    Regards, Mark.
