I enjoyed talking to a volunteer who was doing herbarium pages. It was informative, interactive and good fun.
The nature plus cards are not intuitive. I assumed you would just scan the card and gain the 1 piece of information from that scan point. Having multiple topics from one page complicates the interaction and slows the whole process down.
I am also still trying to find the info that I loaded onto my car on the web site. Felt the cocoon was a lot of walking without much gain. The outer walls of the cocoon could have had small (less than 10cm wide displays). In fact the majority of the rock collection could have gone on the outer cocoon walls and then there would be space for a real reptile display area. Very poor on reptiles I thought. Would have expected the cocoon to be a micro- version of the main museum, not a specialist research area. Topics were sort of interesting but it says more about the scientists view of the museum and not the general public.
For me it was a dream come true, i have always fantasized about working in the museum, and id daydream of myself wandering through endless shelves of specimens.
The natureplus was absolutely brilliant!!! I loved looking past one of the windows and seeing the shelves of books, i was desperate to talk to a scientist but it was bank holiday so no one was there. Otherwise awesome!!!!
i enjoyed finding lots of information about the people who first started collecting specimens, and how they are recorded and preserved in the museum. i really enjoyed watching clips on recent trips scientists had made around the world, especially the clip taken just outside the museum, showing what we could do in our own garden and how we can help to find more information about specific species in our local area and how to help those who are become less common such as bees, this is a serious problem round where i live, and i think more people should be concerned about this issue as bees are the major pollinators for many of our crop species. The butterfly interactive identification quiz was particularly useful, and very interesting.
