Hello, I have found 4 of these beetles in my bed on different nights, one was crawling on me. They don't move very fast and don't seem to fly. I assumed they were bed bugs, but I've had a look at pictures of bed bugs and they don't seem to fit. I’ve not been bitten, but I do feel itchy on my scalp and face (could be psychological from finding bugs in my bed) I've not found them anywhere else other than in my bed. They look to me like a drugstore beetle, but is it normal for them to be in my bed clothes? I changed my sheets yesterday day, and before I went to bed I shook my pillows to check and one of them fell out. They are pretty small ranging from 3 – 5mm and they are reddish brown. I think there might be a lot more than the 4 hanging about as I’ve felt things crawl on me before I found them. I live in Manchester in the UK.
I doubt if the photos are quite good enough for a positive ID (that's not a criticism) but my best guess is that they're furniture beetles, the adults of woodworm. I used to have them in my house. They can fly but do so reluctantly. Have you got any bare wood in the bedroom? If so, it would be worth checking it for small round holes.
If you really don't think it can be furniture beetle then do you think can get a better photo?
The elytral striae visible in the third and (especially) fourth picture let me think to the Drugstore Beetle Stegobium paniceum (Linnaeus, 1758); unfortunately, a quite common pest in houses. They are extremely polyphagous, eating all: furnitures, dry food and collection insects as well!
