A few years ago I put up a 'butterfly and bee' box in my garden but the only insects that showed any interest were spiders using the outside for their webs.
I am very excited because 4 of the holes now seem to have occupants - they are very neatly sealed up. I have attached a close up photo.
Can someone tell me what is likely to be inside - what insect and what stage of the life cycle?
I would imagine they're mason bees (Osmia). Have a read of:
