I found this on the beach in West Wittering, a stretch of coast that turns up Pleistocene and other much older remains and I wondered whether this was very old or much more recent. It has the weight to be expected of bone. It looks to me like it may have been cut away on the side and appears to have incisions, which may be butchery marks. The break appears to have been made across one of these incisions and looks deliberate.
It looks like a femur to me but I have looked for examples online and I can't find anything that matches, particularly in respect of the right-angle between the main shaft and the horizontal protrusion.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
