Have the natural history artworks been seen before?

Hi, I was just wondering whether the historic artwork in the Museum's new Images of Nature gallery has ever been on display before? The John Reeves collection watercolours in particular.

    Hi,

I have just visited the museum today, the print you mentioned are very fine indeed. I would like buy a framed picture for my place. One word of advice try and go when it's less busy as it was full of tourists and school kids running about when i was there in the afternoon.

    Hi Jolene

Many of the artworks on display in Images of Nature haven't been on public display before, so it's really exciting to have a gallery dedicated to showing them off. The oil paintings are all out for the first time, and will now be permanently on show in the gallery. Most of the watercolours in the John Reeves collection haven’t been on display before, either, because they are very delicate – they can fade if they’re exposed to too much light, for example. Even with the special conditions we’ve got in Images of Nature, each watercolour can only be on display for 3 months, so we’ll change all the Reeves paintings on display every 3 months. With more than 2000 paintings in Reeves’ collection, we’ve got plenty to choose from!
