Bee identification

Hi ya I spotted this Bee in my garden yesterday 12/09/10,it was to me very large, and not the normal looking Bee that we normally get,it was at least one inch in length,as you can tell I don' know a great deal about Bees so any help appreciated,thanks in advance Ian.Big Bee.jpg

    I see no reason to believe that it's anything other than a queen (hence the large size) Bombus lapidarius. It will be one of this year's queens which has left the nest and will need to find somewhere to survive over the winter in order to start a colony of it's own next year.
