Please help to identify this Yellow spider

Hi

If anyone can ID this spider, this was in my car in Dunfermline and I have never seen such a spider, it had a vey shiney yellow body with distinct markings, I did think about killing as it really doesn't look like it is native to the UK. Sorry it isn't a better picture but with my mobile and the spider decided to leg it...

cheers

jim

I'm not sure, partly because there's nothing in the photo to give an idea of size. My best guess is Araneus quadratus, which is a big spider when adult. It's native, common and harmless. Or maybe the even commoner A diadematus but, though variable, I've never seen one this colour. I've seen some fairly yellow specimens of Metellina recently, a common and very variable spider, but the legs on your spider don't look long enough (in proportion to its body) and are too annulated.

    I'll go for Araneus quadratus
