What is this Spider?

    It's a female Steatoda, tough call as to which species - S. grossa or S. nobilis.


    Where (in the house) did you find it? Can you maybe get a couple of better shots?

        Adult female S. grossa are very shy & reclusive, so not easy to say, even if you did have more.


        S. nobilis tend to be fairly spaced out, they don't live in tight knit colonies or nests. If it is S. nobilis it is unusual for them to be at ground level where there is a lot of human footfall, though I recently removed one from between the cushions of a sofa that was by the window.


        I'd give the sofa a once over, also underneath just in case. Use a glass & sheet of card to catch any more, or a sheet of paper rolled into a cone & then drop them outside.


        Despite their reputation, they're not typically aggressive, you just don't want them anywhere they may be sat on or squashed against the skin.
