Can anyone identify this bone and tusk? Found on an old boneworks site. Didn't photograph with a measure but bone is about 14" long and tusk(?) is about 12" long but cut one end and broken the other so probably much longer originally.
That looks to be a hippo tusk and possibly a hippo humerous but I'm not so sure about that as it is incomplete and I don't have one to compare it with. Where is your old boneworks site?
We can get more pictures of the large bone if it helps?
We also have other bones so will photograph those and post to be identified.
The site was a manure and chemical works producing bonemeal, size, glue etc from circa 1850 up until the late 1970's. There are a large amount of bones there still.
The site is in Shevington, Wigan, Lancashire just to the south of WN6 9ET.
