My travelling companion is anxious to identify this young tree, of which there are many adult versions on the island of Crete. Furthermore it's suitability for the southern UK climate.
Yes indeed - Norfolk Island pine
It is not really suitable for growing outdoors in most of the UK. In the Scilly Isles it grows outside OK (over 30m tall), but generally it is a conservatory plant.

That one in the photo is not mature; it should get a lot bigger - up to 200ft or so in favourable conditions.
