Yep, that's the baby. V. zonaria has much broader black bands and a chestnut coloured thorax, also are generally more orange in colour. The ovipositor is out on this one so looks like she is looking to lay eggs.
excellent, thanks. A vivid and chunky beast, which is why it caught my attention. I believe this species is parasitic on wasps? She was just above a small wasp nest in the wall (the occupants of which, by the by, have been noisily consuming my fence and clothes prop for the past couple of months :))
