I was horrified when I recently found one of these in my bed but in the following weeks have since spotted another 2 - always under the pillows or at top end of the bed, which is an ottoman. I thought maybe something had gotten in to the space under the bed and have since removed everything and fumigated but desperate to stop it reoccurring and so would like to know what it is and how it might have ended up in my bedroom and more specifically the bed - the last place I would hope to find something like this. They have been about 1 cm in length and are black with a brown to orange band or stripeacross them. Really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks a million
That´s Dermestes lardarius-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermestes_lardarius
Thanks very much Samuel - I just read through the info in your link and was relieved to see that it seems pretty harmless. In the absence of food being eaten there, any idea why it would be specifically the bed/bedroom that they seem to gravitate towards?
If there are pet food, or animal products such as leather, animal skins etc. nearby I suspect they might come from that. They may also be found in bird nests, but otherwise I don't know.
I too have been finding beetles in my home I am knew to the site and it won't let me make my own posts and I am unsure how to put pictures on if you could help me please? I live in the UK and have been finding the bugs in my living room kitchen and the front bedroom. It's got a brown body with black at the top of its legs and the bottom of its wings and it has a long antenna any help would be much appreciated thank you x
