Found this caterpillar on nettles beside the River Stour in Dorset, but not sure if it is a moth or butterfly caterpillar.
Thanks in advance
It is the caterpillar of a small tortoiseshell buterfly, Aglais urticae
(you'll have to scroll quite some way down that page to get to the caterpillars)
I thought this was the small tortoiseshell butterfly caterpillar.
This was taken at Langford Lakes also eating stinging nettles although seems to have slightly different markings,
Is it the same or something different?
Just different instars, if you have a good dig through the cats on the link Mike provided you can see how they change. :)
