Unidentified Tree, South London

What is this tree? I have been wondering what it is for months! Apologises if it is something really obvious. I have very basic knowledge in tree identification. Photos of overall structure, leaves and bark are attached. In large back garden in south London. Scale seen from size compared to houses. Many thanks for any suggestions.

    Charles,

It is a sycamore, Acer pseudoplatanus.

The fruit (samaras) indicate Acer; the leaves, bark and overall stature suggest A. p.; the fruit in detail are right for A. p.; A. p. is a very common tree in the UK (and further afield).

(There are some other maples that would just about fit, but I suggest it is not these since they are much more unusual.)

PS. If you post more questions in future, please could you downsize the photos. Some folks will have difficulty with 10Mb photos because of download speeds, especially if they have other things consuming bandwidth and/or CPU cycles at the same time. It is perfectly possible to reduce the size to ~100Kb (one hundredth the size) and still have perfectly good and usable results. If you need to show detail, then crop the image instead of downsizing it. Don't downsize your originals; just the copies you upload. Thanks.
