We were walking our dog on a coast path in West Wales last week when we stopped to talk to some people on the path. I looked down and saw a very strange creature slowly walking across the tarmac - it was about the size of a blueberry, and was a dull, but irridescent green. It was 'lime' shaped, pointed each end and getting fatter towards the middle, about 3/4" from nose to tail. It looked to have an articulated covering, like a pill bug, but on closer inspection it was not quite the same, the 'scales' did not overlap, it was more like folds, and the covering was not hard, but looked soft and irregular. When picked up it rolled up, but could not close like a pillbug, so it's mouth parts and front 'grippers' were visible. It looked like a tiny green armadillo!
does anyone have any idea what this was, whether this is the adult of a beast I have never come across before, or an immature phase of something that I would recognise?
