Thank you both so much for your help.I suspected it may be a moth but could find none with such a narrow wing in any of the books I have.
I can now find out more about these fascinating insects and try to encourage more to my garden.
The blurred image was taken in strong unnatural light so isnt quite so red as the image shows,but it was more brown than the other insect.
I am so pleased to finally know who my little visitors were.thank you
yes,the white plume.I have been doing a bit of research since posting this and have discovered a whole new range of moths I knew nothing about.
I have never seen that one in my garden yet,,but my daughter thinks one landed on her friend yesterday!
I am hoping to attract them by planting specific plants for them...wish me luck!
If anyone out there can help by recommending plants to attract more plume moths I would be very grateful.
