Hi. I found this in Skegness on Tuesday. At first, I thought it was fossil coral, but I'm not sure if it's an ice age bone, or just a rock.
Any replies would be appreciated.
I'm in two minds: could be:
- biogenic, but I'm not sure what (it is pretty irregular in its cellularity; maybe perhaps a sponge), or
- non-biogenic: just a carbonate clastic with silica cement, in which the original carbonate grains have been dissolved
As often with these things, microscope study is really needed.
Ok thanks for the reply. I'll post a microscope image tomorrow.
