I found these guys on my Hydrangea plant. I recently took the plant indoors having been outside for years. I wonder where these guys came from? I found around 20 of them, hiding very well behind leaves. But I noticed in the last few days they have been dropping off the plant. They are very slow moving and seem to survive when they drop into water.
They will be the notorious 'Vine Weevil', Otiorhynchus sulcatus.
The adults nibble the edges or roots and their larvae gorge on the roots. You can buy treatments for them on the garden centre, but I just liberate (with an overhand bowling action) any I find outside, which I find is control enough.
