I found this small feather in a field today in east herts, I have no idea what it is, can anyone help me out.
It's the right wing last secondary (S9) - or third tertiary (T3) for others - of a Jay Garrulus glandarius.
Here is a photo: http://www.michelklemann.nl/verensite/garrulus_glandarius/gaglc00.jpg
Yours is the one on the right, labelled 'T3'.
See it in the wing (left of the image) here: http://www.bartzijlstra.com/bzp/wp-content/gallery/birds/eurasian-jay-wing.jpg
Wow thanks, I never thought of a Jay.
