please can someone tell me what made these beautiful coloured patches on this flint(?) and others found in a rock pool on the Isle of Wight? Thank you
White-grey-black is a natural spectrum for flint; sometimes wandering towards blue.
Brown will be due to ferric iron in the somewhat chalky rind to the flint.
Purple is more of a mystery...
