I am a veterinary nurse and would like to find out what this parasite is? We found in abbundance on an Otter.
Kind Regards to anyone who can solve this mystery of mine.
At first Ithought it was a Tick but it has only 6 legs, its a Chigger larvae Here we have them in August a Harvest mite make you scratch like crazy
Hi there Steve,
Yes I thought they were harvest mites but the vet though other wise!
The otter was found in February and had loads all over his head and ears.
They weren't the typical orange colour that we find on dogs and cats in late summer.
Thanks for your help
I am having difficulty showing links Chiggers are interesting only as the biting parasitic larvae do they have 6 legs in later stages they revert to the 8 leg Arachnid form best make sure you do not get caught up
