I found this spider on the door to my house. It's hanging there from a few hardly visible threads. There's no noticeable web. The spider is not at all put out by the opening and closing of the door. It sometimes runs to the lower part of the door, but quickly climbs up again once the door is still.
This is an example of Zygiella x-notata or the missing sector orb-weaver spider - very common and often found around buildings, particularly window frames and sills, porches, sheds, etc where they make their orb webs. They often hide close by in a suitable retreat at the edge of the web.
