Does anyone know what this is please - found near Market Harborough, Leicestershire?
Here are two further photo which may give a better idea of scale.
This is the pelvis and part of the lower spine of a Deer. Although it is difficult to judge the exact size from the photo, given the location it was found it is most likely a Roe Deer.
Size wise I have measured the length of the last vertebra before the sacrum; in 3 roe deer it is 28mm, 24mm, 24mm, muntjac 23mm. Across the acetabula, the hip joint, roe 56mm, 69mm, muntjac 46mm. One further measurement - the width of the last disc space muntjac 20mm, roe 30mm and 33mm, these are probably the furthest measurement apart.
Hope this helps.
