I found this rock at Lynmouth beach last year it stood out from all the others, in colour and weight (7ozs) it's very heavy for it's size, it also has some magnetic properties, it has several bubble shape holes which house some very tiny crystals, it's dark in colour and has a slight gold metallic sheen when angled in the light, some parts of the rock are orange in colour any ideas? I'd love to know what it is, I work for an environmental redmediation company and I showed it to some of the geologists who were baffled.
I'm pretty sure that's a piece of slag, in this case waste from a foundry or other hot metal works.
(It looks similar to basic volcanic rock, but there are a few things not quite right.)
Yes I think so thank you for looking at it, I showed it to a senior geologist and he said he thought it was Iron Slag from a furnace, I really like it though so it's with my other pile of interesting rocks
