Hi folks, we've been exploring an area known for its mid/late Miocene marine vertebrate fossils, and stumbled across this vertebrae (it was not, however, in situ, so age is tentative). I know that it's extremely worn, and don't expect to identify it to species by any means. I'm just extremely puzzled by the fact that it appears to have two foramina, a typical large one on the dorsal side suggested by the remnant pedicles (if that's the right word?), and then a distinct, small foramen on the ventral side. It is approximately 7.5 x 6.5 x 5 cm (a pen is included in some photos for scale). Any help or input is appreciated.
