I'm not panicked in any why but how many false widow spiders do I find before it becomes a problem? I remember on the news a school had to calling exterminators because of a false widow nest was found. Was this just for peace of mind of the parents or was it a genuine problem? So far in the last four weeks I have found seven of these, with this being the biggest at 17mm body and front to back leg total length of 25-28mm. My garden isn't very big but is a little unkept and I'm aware that this can be a great place for spiders and bugs to live. I know as I start to tidy prune and dig the garden I will find more of them as I am disturbing them, what should I do leave well alone avoid or deal with a problem?
I'm pretty sure that's a Steatoda nobilis. There are people on this forum who are quite happy to live alongside them and if you've got them around your house it's unlikely you'd be able to eradicate them. They haven't reached my corner of Suffolk yet but if I did find one in my house then I'd just throw it outside. See -
