How rare is this blue lobster?

Hi

I found this lobster tail on the beach at Hornsea last year and was surprised at the bright blue colouration. According to the internet these are4 rare and due to a protein irregularity. Does anyone know how rare these are?

Regards

    Hi Wolvesjeff,

You may be confusing our domestic lobster with the American lobster. I asked a friend who's a keen diver & he said, "Not that rare, beautiful though. Have seen them very blue through to black. The bluest ones I have seen are when they are soft - i.e. just shed the old shell".

The European lobster (Homarus gammarus) is typically blue in the wild, only turning red on cooking.
