It's Sitophilus weevil, probably granarius. You almost certainly have some infested granary food product somehere in the area. In my case it was a sack of wild bird seed, which they rapidly converted to a sack of dust and weevils. They can breed very fast when the food supply is present. They don't bite, they're more of a nuisance than anything. They could infest any grain, rice, lentils, flour, you will need to search through it all and chuck out anything which has them present. I found them rather resistant to insecticides; a few always escape destruction and if you store grain in the same spot again they will soon be back.
Thanks for the info, it appear that we have now located the source, it was similar to yours where we had a bag of wild bird seed, which upon inspection was merely husks and dust, with many weevil falling from the packet. This has now been disposed of and the visible creatures vacuumed up. We are now alert to this and hopefully now we can mop up the last few individuals now they have no food source.
