Just been doing some DIY and when I removed one of my sub floor boards (near the foundation) I found this spider. I've removed it from the house but there were 3 spider egg sacks still underneath the board.
Can anyone identify it? I've embedded two photos, one of the spider and also one of a tape measure to judge size (I think roughly 1.5").
Sorry for the poor quality photos, it was completely black with no markings on the abdomen and without any hair. I'm based in Bristol, UK.
I did see this when you posted it but I wasn't sure what I could say that might be helpful. From what I can see it could be a Steatoda or a Meta species. Maybe something else. It needs a better photo I think.
Were the egg sacs like this?
Slightly, they had a diameter of about 15mm, there were 2 underneath the board I lifted and 1 more under the next (I guess 2 must have been previous egg sacs) but they were attached to the board without any webs.
