did big cats ever roam the pennines and is there any evidence and did any big cats ever live in lancashire
cave lion etc
There are many works that state that big cats existed in England, eg.
(including Europe in general, rather than England - but it gives a useful list of species, which you could use to do further searches)
(sabre-tooth cat, cave lion, European jaguar)
(map shows Pennines as N. limit of Panthera spelaea (cave lion) in the UK, and gives Kirkdale and Creswell as a specific sites for it)
Kirkdale was covered by the ice sheet, so the cave lion expanded north past the southerly edge of the ice sheet.
We're still in an ice age - the Quaternary/Pleistocene glaciation, though we're currently in an interglacial event within that - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary_glaciation
