Octopus Stinkhorn in the New Forest?

While out walking in the New Forest this morning I came across a weird plant. It had 5 red, spongy tentacles coming from the base, each about 3 inches long. Flies were buzzing in and out of the centre and it was stinky. Close by were a few gelatinous-looking egg-shaped bulb things and a few feet away was another red tentacle plant. It looked like a star fish or an anemone, but it was out on the heath. The closest thing I can find online is an octopus stinkhorn. It can't be, can it? Whatever it is, should I inform the rangers?
