I came accross this spider in my shed this morning and I think it looks like a false widow that have been reported in the news recently. Can someone please identify?
I know there has been a lot about this in the press recently, but is there anyone I should report this to? Struggling to find any info other than news articles.
Although the flash has cast a different impression of thus spider than natural light does I am almost certain that this is Steatoda grossa one of the more common and widespread of our False Widow spiders. This is a species that lives comfortably in the clutter of sheds and garages and is not reliably implicated in bites.
