Very nice Fossil_collecta, you have taken the picture with a very steady hand!

I have little to no knowledge of this subject although i have a couple of specimens, I would take a guess at it being a midge or mosquito type of insect but I do not know.

Looks like a midge of some sort.

      Hi Thomas

May I say that is something special!

Great fossil and an even better image.

      Is it in your collection?

Interesting specimen. Might be a wasp after having done a few searches online. Hope you find an answer soon, like the seed too!

Tabfish, that specimen is indeed in my collection. The photo won me an award last year with the GA, got me featured in their magazine. It is in Baltic amber; you can find a fair bit in Sweden at certain locations after a storm. I enjoy looking but it can get a bit frustrating sometimes as it depends a lot on the conditions, the rewards are high if you predict when to go and where to look.

        Hi Thomas

Over the years I have found quite a bit of Jet but only two pieces of Amber on the Holderness coast, I donot think ether of the pieces of Amber have inclusions inside but I have some fantastic Amber/Copal from a trade some years ago.

One piece I have polished has hundreds of ants inside all about 2mm in length, another has a full spider and a partial one along with midges and some other bugs.

I have made jewelery from the tear shaped pieces that my wife now has.

I will try a bit harder to take some images of the inclusions in my Amber/Copal.
