I'd say that's an Araneus diadematus, more commonly known as the Garden or Cross Spider. It's widespread and commonly found on its orb web painstakingly woven between vegetation or other convenient structures. Their colour is quite variable as the photos here and elsewhere on a web search will show:
Hi Chris! Thanks for the fast reply and links to extra info. Really cool that a spider this beautiful could be so common, and it’s pretty amazing that there can be such a variation in colour. I’ll keep on the lookout to see if I can spot one for myself.
